The Rhone Valley has emerged as the winner of the ‘2010 Wine Region of the Year’ award, given by The Wine Enthusiast Magazine in New York.
The editors hailed the region’s recent string of excellent vintages and the enormous amount of effort that vignerons had invested into winemaking over recent years. It is the first French winemaking region to take the prize.
“When we considered its recent string of top vintages and growing environmental stewardship, it emerged as a clear favourite choice as Wine Enthusiast’s Region of the Year.”
– Joe Czerwinski speaking at the prize giving.
This should come as no surprise: Vintages from the Rhone over the past decade have rarely strayed from excellent, whilst prices have remained eminently affordable compared to the likes of Bordeaux or Burgundy.
