Corbin, Grand Cru Classé, St-Emilion, Bordeaux Don't look here for an over-macerated, high-alcohol, fruit forward styled wine. Corbin is a "traditional" styled wine: perfectly balanced, clean fruit, with good concentration and seductive elegance. Previously, Corbin was not one of those viticultural role models of technical perfection. Since the 1999 vintage, however, Corbin has been under the "new" generational reins of Anabelle Cruse-Bardinet. Proper vineyard management, a reconstructed cellar, the increase of new-oak in the ageing and the creation of a 2nd wine have given Corbin a new, precise and exciting direction. Here is an excellent example where the 2001 vintage is better than the estate's 2000. Lastly, Corbin has the cool-headedness to strengthen (and widen!) its customer base not only thru the increased quality of the wines but also thru a long-term, coherent pricing-policy oriented towards showing value (which usually translates to customer fidelity). Corbin is currently priced along the lines of Médoc Cru Bourgeois like Chasse Spleen, Poujeaux .... yet it's a "Grand Cru Classé" !
