Graves 1959 ClassificationGraves 1959 Classification:
The region of Graves, home to viticulture when Medoc was still partially submerged by the sea, was excluded by the 1855 classification (with the exception of Chateau Haut-Brion). This engendered a great deal of frustration among growers in Graves and, after a full century had passed, they finally were able to pass their own classification system in 1959.
It is a fairly simple alphabetical list of properties with no ranking within the categories. However, as with the 1855 classification, although to a lesser extent, the passage of time has rendered the list lacking in many respects. It refers only to a tiny number of properties in the Pessac-Leognan enclave, rather than the Graves region as a whole. There is much talk of overhauling the outdated system, though this is yet to transpire.
