Bordeaux Chateau Descriptions

Domaine Grand Veneur

Domaine Grand Veneur LabelThe Jaume family’s tenure in this region began in 1826, when Mathieu Jaume decided to establish vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape – the famous source of papal wine and a favourite of Innocent VI. His immediate successors were Mauris, Fernand and Roger Jaume.

In 1979, Alain and Odile Jaume proudly carried on the family’s viticultural tradition with the establishment of Grand Veneur. Originally consisting of only 22 acres, today the vineyard boasts nearly 170 that spread across Chateauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Cotes du Rhone Villages “Les Champauvins” and Cotes du Rhone areas.

In 2003 a new estate comprising of 50 acres was acquired: The “Clos De Sixte” within the Lirac AOC. The appellation is located a few kilometres from Chateauneuf du Pape and is one of the fifteen Crus of the Rhone Valley. The sandy-clay earth and rocky topsoil is unique, resembling a plateaux of Chateaneuf du Pape rather than anything from Lirac. Once overlooked, Lirac is now the leading outsider of the Rhone Valley.

Today, Christophe and Sebastien are taking charge of the estate and are determined to put to maximum advantage their knowledge in wine-growing and tasting.
