Chateau d'Arsac Razed during the revolution, the estate was reconstructed in 1830. The overall bourgeois appearance belies the fact that this is, after all, one of the oldest domains of the Medoc: During the 100 Years War, the Sires of Arsac made a daring alliance with the king of England. In the 1500s, Margueritte and Jacquette of Arsac married one Etienne de La Boetie and Thomas de Montaigne, respectively. Ever after, the domaine would be the property of the counts of Segur and the Barons of Arsac.
Towards the end of the 1800s, the vineyard at Arsac was one the largest in the Medoc. Unfortunately, the phylloxera epidemic and the slump in sales incited the owners of the time to uproot the totality of their vines. It was not even included in the Margaux appellation drawn up in 1954. Fortunately, today it has rediscovered its viticultural heritage and re-established itself in the Margaux appellation from which it had been forgotten.
From 1986 onwards, Phillipe Raoux took the helm and pushed forward the restoration work: He has employed the Bordelais architect Patrick Hernandez to attend to the chateau itself and create seamless renovations to bring d’Arsac, with its great tradition, into modernity.
